Fingall, Houlie Named Brad Davis Community Service Award Winners

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southeastern Conference announced each of its 14 member institutions' 2023-24 Brad Davis Community Service Award winners Thursday, with volleyball's Morgahn Fingall and men's swimming's Michael Houlie earning the honor from Tennessee.

The SEC Community Service Post-Graduate Scholarship is named for former Associate Commissioner Brad Davis. Davis succumbed to cancer on March 2, 2006. He had been a member of the SEC staff since 1988, first serving as an assistant commissioner until 1994 when he was promoted to associate commissioner.

As winners of the award, Fingall and Houlie will receive a $5,000 post-graduate scholarship provided by the SEC. Both nominees are also in contention for the Male and Female Brad Davis Community Service Leaders of the Year award, with each selection receiving a $10,000 post-graduate scholarship.

The 2023 AVCA Southeast Region Player of the Year, Fingall was a first team All-American on the court, earning the award from both the AVCA and VolleyballMag.com. The right side finished the 2023 campaign with 457 kills on .321 hitting, 193 digs, 84 blocks and 30 aces to lead the Lady Vols to one of their best seasons in program history.

Fingall also excelled in the classroom, garnering SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors for the second year in a row. She was also tabbed to the 2023 CSC Academic All-America First Team after earning her bachelor's degree in kinesiology with a minor in public health and pursuing a master's in public health while boasting a 3.80 GPA. She was a two-time CSC Academic All-District Team honoree and four-time SEC Academic Honor Roll selection.

A 2020 Tokyo Olympian for South Africa, Houlie was a six-time All-American and seven-time SEC medalist during his time on Rocky Top. He was a member of the Vols' 200 medley relay in 2023 that won the SEC Championship and finished sixth nationally at the NCAA Championships. The four-time All-SEC performer finished his career ranked second in the UT record books in the 100 breast (51.26) and fifth in the 200 breast (1:53.97).

In the classroom, Houlie was a three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll selection and earned his bachelor's degree in finance in 2023. During the 2020-21 academic year, he was a member of the VOLeaders Academy that went to Belize.
