AUSTIN, Texas – For the first time in program history, the Tennessee women's swimming & diving team boasted multiple CSC Academic All-Americans in back-to-back years, as the organization tabbed three Lady Vols with first team honors.
The only school in the country with three first team honorees, UT's selections were juniors Brooklyn Douthwright and Josephine Fuller as well as senior Mona McSharry. Each earned CSC Academic All-America status of the second season in a row, as McSharry was a first team honoree last year, while Douthwright and Fuller were both third team recipients. With the trio earning the recognition in back-to-back years, Tennessee doubled its multi-time Academic All-Americans to six in program history.
Boasting a 3.57 GPA as a Kinesiology major, McSharry joined Kathy Pesek, who was the 1998 Academic All-American of the Year, as the only individuals to earn multiple first team selections. She's been on the SEC Academic Honor Roll three times throughout her career and was a 2021 CSCAA Scholar All-America First Team honoree.
The Sligo, Ireland, native is coming off her best season as a Lady Vol, finishing as the NCAA runner-up and SEC Champion in both breaststrokes. McSharry earned All-America honors in six events and won a total of seven medals at SECs, including a third gold in the 400 medley relay.
A Biomedical Engineering major with a 3.82 GPA, Douthwright earned 2023 CSCAA Scholar All-America recognition and boasts a pair of SEC Academic Honor Roll accolades while on Rocky Top. She's won eight medals throughout her career at the SEC Championships, including a pair of gold medals, and she's garnered All-America honors in seven events.
Fuller owns a 3.93 GPA as a Psychology major. After a breakout sophomore campaign last year, the Richmond, Virginia, native once again elevated her success in the pool, finishing inside the top five in all three of her individual events (100 back, 200 back, 200 IM) at the NCAA Championships. She was the top point scorer for the Lady Vols at NCAAs after garnering All-America First Team honors in seven events. At SECs, she won six medals throughout the meet, including five silver.
Overall, the Lady Vols boast 20 Academic All-America recipients all time, with 12 being first team honorees. The Big Orange has been represented on the teams a total of eight times during the last three seasons—the most during a three-year stretch in program history.
