ATHENS, Ga. – Thanks to an impressive week of performances, the Tennessee Lady Vols earned their second-best finish in program history during the 2024 NCAA Championships, placing fourth overall with a total of 277 points.
Â
The Lady Vols entered the final day with an 8-point advantage over Stanford and a 28-point lead on USC, and the team battled hard to hold its spot, recording four podium finishes and scoring points in eight events. Tennessee earned its seventh straight top-10 finish at the NCAA Championships. The only other team in program history to finish higher was the 2013 squad, which took third, while the 1989 team also finished fourth nationally.
Â
For the week, Tennessee boasted 11 podium performances and 17 top-16 finishes—both of which marked the third most in program history behind the 2013 (14 and 18) and 1989 (12 and 18) squads. All five of the UT relays claimed a spot on the podium, led by a silver medal in the 800 free relay.
Â
The Big Orange won five total medals for the week with three silver and two bronze. Three Lady Vols brought home a combined six first team All-America honors. Throughout the meet, the team broke four program records and posted 11 new top-10 times in school history.
Â
In the final race of the meet, Tennessee secured its fourth-place finish in the team standings by taking fifth overall in the 400 free relay. The lineup of Brooklyn Douthwright, Mona McSharry, Josephine Fuller and Camille Spink touched the wall in 3:09.70 to cap off the strong meet for the Lady Vols and hold off a  late push from Stanford.
Â
McSharry's impressive meet ended with the silver-medal sweep of the breaststrokes. She touched the wall in 2:04.07 to take second in the championship final, marking the second time in her career she won silver in the event. For her NCAA Championship career, McSharry boasts four medal-winning performances, and after the 400 free relay, she's a 23-time All-American—seven of which are first team honors in the breaststrokes.
Â
Joining McSharry in the 200 breast championship final was Emelie Fast, who recorded the No. 2 time in Tennessee history at 2:06.79 to finish seventh overall. It was the first All-America first team honors of her career to go along with her second team accolades in the 100 breast from Friday night. Fast enjoyed a successful freshman season, which included her winning a pair of medals in the breaststroke events at the SEC Championships with silver in the 200 and bronze in the 100.
Â
Capping off an impressive week of racing, Fuller earned her third individual All-America first team honor thanks to a fifth-place finish in the 200 back (1:50.49). During prelims, she set the program record in the event with a 1:49.57 effort. Fuller was Tennessee's top point scorer for the week after winning bronze in the 200 IM and also finishing fifth in the 100 back.
Â
In the 100 free, Spink earned second team All-America accolades after finishing 10th overall thanks to a 47.05 effort. In addition to her performance on the 400 free relay, this wrapped up an impressive freshman campaign that saw Spink win three SEC gold medals, including the 50 and 100 freestyles, and earn All-America honors in five events.
Â
For the first time in her career, Tanesha Lucoe advanced to finals on platform at the NCAA Championships. After recording a score of 273.10 in prelims, she earned her spot in the consolation final, where she would go on to garner All-America second team recognition after placing 11th overall (280.35). Her effort was the best finish by a Lady Vol in the event since Tori Lamp finished sixth in 2014.
Â
In the 1650 free time trials, Aly Breslin repeated as an All-American in the mile. She finished 11th overall after winning her heat with a time of 15:56.89 to garner second team honors.
