Vols Run No. 2 DMR In School History At Alex Wilson Invite

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Tennessee quartet of Dalton Hengst, Rasheeme Griffith, Jacob Lewis and Yaseen Abdalla rounded out the 2023-24 indoor track & field regular season on Saturday, competing in the men's 4,000-meter distance medley relay at the Alex Wilson Invitational inside Notre Dame's Loftus Sports Center.
The Vols finished eighth in the event, clocking in with a time of 9:28.17 for the No. 2 performance in school history. Hengst led off the relay running the 1,200-meter leg in a hand-timed 2:52.6, while Griffith took the baton for the 400-meter portion in 45.7 seconds. Lewis came on for the 800-meter leg in 1:50.5 before Abdalla capped the DMR with a 3:59 split on the 1,600-meter anchor.
The mark represented UT's 14th top 10 program mark in a distance event this season under coach Sean Carlson. Tennessee has established a new school record in the men's mile (Hengst – 3:59.73) and new freshman records in the women's 800m (Ka'Myya Haywood – 2:05.25) and women's 5,000m (Caroline Lyerly – 16:06.65) this indoor season.
This marks the end of the regular indoor season for Tennessee track & field, which now gears up for postseason action next weekend in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The 2024 SEC Indoor Championships run Friday and Saturday, Feb. 23-24, at the Randal Tyson Track Center.
