AUBURN, Ala. – Tennessee freshman Bennett Greene posted the ninth-best score in program history to win the 1-meter competition on day one of the Auburn Diving Invitational.
Greene entered the 1-meter finals with the second-highest score from prelims at 342.15. He followed up that performance with a career-best effort of 384.40 to move into ninth in the UT record books ahead of Will Hallam and Brent Sterling.
The Knoxville, Tenn., native score in the finals was 52.5 points ahead of second place. Greene eclipsed 60 points on five of his six dives, including three going for more than 67 points. His best attempt of the round came on Inward 2 1/2 Somersault Tuck that netted him 68.2 points.
In a heated contest for second place, Nick Stone finished fourth overall in the event thanks to a 330.70 effort—just 1.3 points from a one-two finish by the Vols atop the standings. Owen Redfearn came in 10th with a score of 278.35.
Both squads competed in the team events, where three divers combined to do a six-dive list in which all three disciplines are performed twice. The Vols finished third with a score of 332.90, while the Lady Vols took fourth (263.80).
On Thursday, the Big Orange will compete in the men's 3-meter and women's 1-meter prelims simultaneously at 11:30 a.m. ET followed by finals in each event. Fans can watch live on SEC Network+.
