BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Garnering their second SEC weekly honors of the season, Jordan Crooks and Bennett Greene were recognized for their impressive performances during last week's Tennessee Invitational, the league office announced Tuesday.
Â
Crooks earned SEC Co-Swimmer of the Week, marking his second time bringing home the honor this season and 10th time overall for his career. Greene earned his first SEC Diver of the Week recognition after winning SEC Freshman of the Week honors after the Louisville meet.
Â
Crooks, a senior from George Town, Cayman Islands, had a massive showing at the Tennessee Invitational, winning all eight of the events he competed in, setting six schools records and recording the top time in the nation in four different individual events as well as two relays.
Â
Crooks dominated the field in the 50 free (18.16), 100 free (40.26) and 100 fly (43.77) thanks to NCAA-leading marks. He kicked off the meet by shattering the school record in the 200 free thanks to his 1:30.00 leadoff split—the fastest time in the country this season—that paced the Vols' 800 free relay to a program-record effort of 6:12.33.
Â
From there, the momentum only stayed in favor of Crooks and the Tennessee relays, as they posted the fastest times in the country in the 400 free relay (2:44.13) and 400 medley relay (3:01.62) while ranking inside the top three in the NCAA in the other three relays. Crooks made history with a pair of his relay splits, clocking the fastest 100 free split on a flying start ever (39.89) during the 400 free relay and the third-fastest mark of all time on a 50 free split (17.57) during the 200 medley relay.
Â
Greene, a freshman from Knoxville, Tenn., swept the springboard events and took second on platform to finish as the top diver during the Tennessee Invitational. On 1-meter, he posted three 60-plus point dives during finals to secure the victory. He set the tone early after netting a score of 69 on his first dive, which was a Forward 3 1/2 Somersault Tuck.
Â
On 3-meter, Greene just missed cracking into the top-10 scores in program history, finishing with 412.85 effort. Four of his dives netted more than 70 points, and his last two attempts combined for 158.6 points to seal the springboard sweep. His top dive of the event was a Forward 2 1/2 Somersault 2 Twist Pike that went for 81.60 points. He rounded out his impressive meet by taking second on platform (343.15). All three of his efforts were season bests.
