November 19, 2024 | Swimming & Diving, Women's Swimming & Diving, Men's Swimming & Diving
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Two school records fell and six new top-10 times in program history were posted by UT swimming & diving on the opening night of the 2024 Tennessee Invitational at Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center.
Â
The Vols and Lady Vols kicked off the four-day meet by swimming the 800 free relay on Tuesday night. The top performance of the session came in the men's race, when the lineup of Jordan Crooks, Gui Caribe, Joaquin Vargas and Björn Kammann threw down an impressive 6:12.33 effort, shattering the previous school record set in 2018 by nearly five seconds. Crooks' 1:30.00 split in the 200 free to lead off the race improved his own Tennessee record. Both efforts marked the fastest time in the country this season.
Â
Tennessee's B relay of Nikoli Blackman, Charlie Krone, Griffin Hadley and Jack Stelter finished second in the race, touching the wall in 6:23.09. Blackman recorded the fifth-fastest time in UT history in the 200 free, clocking a 1:33.68 split.
Â
On the women's side, the Lady Vols also finished first and second in the event. The A lineup of Camille Spink, Ella Jansen, Julia Mrozinski and Brooklyn Douthwright outpaced the field behind a 6:56.95 effort—the fastest mark in the NCAA this season and No. 5 time in school history. Spink led things off with a 1:43.46 split, which checks in as the fifth-best time in the country on the year.
Â
The squad of Josephine Fuller, Emily Brown, Julia Burroughs and Sara Stotler posted the 10th-best time in school history, notching a 7:00.95 effort. Fuller's leadoff split of 1:43.92 was a new personal-best effort for her and checked in as the No. 8 effort in school history.
