Douthwright, Hattie and Spink Earn SEC Weekly Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala – Tennessee swimmers Brooklyn Douthwright and Camille Spink along with diver Bryden Hattie won SEC weekly honors following their performances against Georgia, the league announced Tuesday.

Douthwright garnered SEC Swimmer of the Week accolades, Hattie was tabbed SEC Co-Diver of the Week, and Spink earned SEC Freshman of the Week recognition. With the selection, Hattie has tied Jordan Crooks and Colin Zeng for the most SEC weekly honors won in program history with 10. Douthwright and Spink both received SEC weekly awards for the first time in their career.Â

Helping the No. 15 Lady Vols defeat the 12th-ranked Bulldogs, Douthwright tallied two individual victories along with a relay win. Her first victory of the day came in the 200 free, with an NCAA B standard time of 1:44.31 ranking as the top time in the SEC and fourth in the nation so far during the month of January. The Riverview, New Brunswick, Canada, native added her second win of the meet in the 100 fly with another NCAA B standard time of 53.35. A member of the fastest 400 free relay team for UT, Douthwright and the Lady Vols threw down a 3:13.90 effort, which was the best mark in the SEC during the week and second best in the nation.

For the fourth time this season, Hattie earned SEC diver of the week after tallying a pair of victories in a dual meet against seventh-ranked Georgia. On 3-meter, the Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, native earned a mark of 400.28, thanks to an event-best dive of 76.50 in his final dive of the list. On 1-meter, Hattie earned a win in the event with 365.25 points. For both 1-meter and 3-meter, the senior was the only diver to eclipse a dive over 70 points in each event.Â

Spink collected four victories to lead the Lady Vols to their win over Georgia. She posted a season-best time in the 50 free to highlight the performance. The freshman opened the day as a member of the fastest 200 medley relay (1:36.10), swimming the fly leg with a 23.60 split. The Haymarket, Virginia, native began her individual races with a win in the 50 free, throwing down a 22.15 mark to give the Big Orange the lead going into the first break of the meet. She followed that up out of the break by getting the win in the 100 free, touching the wall in 47.93. Her times were the fastest in the SEC for the week, while her 100 free mark was second nationally during the month of January. For the season, she boasts the top times by an NCAA freshman in both events. She concluded the day with a win in the 400 free relay, which posted the best time in the SEC for the week with a 3:13.90 effort.
Tennessee will conclude their dual meet schedule this Saturday against LSU at home. The meet will serve as Tennessee's senior day and will begin at noon.
