July 03, 2023 | Track & Field, Tennessee Tailored
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A pair of Lady Vol graduate students were recently named to the 2022-23 women's track & field/cross country Academic All-America teams by the College Sports Communicators (CSC), recognizing superior individual performances on the track and in the classroom. Uchechi Nwogwugwu was selected to the CSC Academic All-America second team, while Nicole Sreenan picked up third team honors.
The Academic All-America teams, selected by CSC members, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The first, second and third teams are comprised of 45 total student-athletes.
A sixth-year senior from Lansdale, Pennsylvania, Nwogwugwu completed her master's in public health this past spring after joining the Lady Vols as a graduate transfer in the fall of 2021. She represented UT twice at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 4x400-meter relay and provided scoring efforts in the same event and both SEC Championship meets in 2022. Prior to Tennessee, the six-time Ivy League champion starred at Penn and received her undergraduate degree in Health & Societies.
Sreenan joined the Tennessee track & field program in 2021 after a remarkable career in the NCAA Division II ranks, capturing three individual national titles and 14 All-America certificates for Grand Valley State while earning her bachelor's in criminal justice. The sprinter from Elburn, Illinois, carved out a role on Tennessee's 4x100-meter relay this past spring, anchoring the Lady Vols to the No. 2 mark in school history (43.25) last month at the NCAA Outdoor Championships to place 10th and earn All-America status.
Including Dylan Jacobs (first team) and Peyton Davis (third team) from the Tennessee men's squad, UT's four 2023 Academic All-America recipients ties the single-year program record set in 2007. Since 1989, the Vols and Lady Vols have totaled 32 Academic All-America honors.
