BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southeastern Conference announced each of its 14 member institutions' 2022-23 Brad Davis Community Service Award Winners Thursday, with rowing's Lucy Marret and men's diving's Nick McCann winning the award from Tennessee.
Â
The SEC Community Service Post-Graduate Scholarship is named for former Associate Commissioner Brad Davis. Davis succumbed to cancer on March 2, 2006. He had been a member of the SEC staff since 1988, first serving as an assistant commissioner until 1994 when he was promoted to associate commissioner.
Â
As winners of the award, Marret and McCann will receive a $5,000 post-graduate scholarship provided by the SEC. Both nominees are also in contention for the Male and Female Brad Davis Community Service Leaders of the Year award, with each selection receiving a $10,000 post-graduate scholarship.
Â
Marret, a two-time SEC Academic Honor Roll recipient, has been a member of the first varsity four boat for the last year and a half. This season, she's compiled a 22-12 record in the boat, including wins against Boston, Clemson, Louisville, Michigan State, North Carolina and Oklahoma. During the Lake Wheeler Invitational on April 21-22, she helped the crew to an impressive 12-3 slate for the regatta.
Â
After garnering 2021 All-Big 12 Academic First Team honors, Marret was a member of the 2021-22 class for VOLeaders Academy that concluded with a cultural exchange trip to Rwanda, which provided applied leadership and service opportunities focused on community development and social change through sport.
Â
McCann, a member of the 2020-21 VOLeaders Academy class, served this past season as a student manager with diving after medically retiring. During his time with the Vos, he was a three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll selection while majoring in biological sciences.
