Brooks Debuts With NCAA Leading 110m Hurdles Time At Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, N.C. — In his first meet competing attached for the Tennessee Volunteers, graduate student Devon Brooks claimed the NCAA lead in the 110-meter hurdles with his first-place finish on Friday at the Raleigh Relays.
Competing in the fifth and final heat, Brooks clocked an NCAA-leading wind legal time of 13.70 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles to open his 2023 campaign. Running with a 1.0 m/s tailwind, the McDonough, Georgia, native's time ranks No. 5 in the world this season and was 0.02 seconds from cracking Tennessee's all-time top 10 list in the event.
The Vols earned a pair of podium finishes in the men's triple jump competition at NC State with Elliot Barner and Garison Breeding placing second and third, respectively. Barner leaped 15.30m (50-2.5) in his first collegiate outdoor triple jump contest, while Breeding went 15.28m (50-1.75) in his outdoor season debut.
One of five Lady Vols competing in the 400-meter dash on Friday, senior Kyla Robinson-Hubbard took home a fifth-place finish with a lifetime-best clocking of 54.33 seconds. Her mark ranks 11th in the SEC and 21st nationally during the 2023 outdoor season.
The second day of the meet wrapped up with Friday's distance portion, as Brooke Dixon (4:28.58) and Carolyn Barksdale (4:38.85) contested the women's 1,500-meter. The night concluded with Karl Thiessen (29:04.26), Nate Kawalec (29:20.92) and Eli Nahom (29:26.42) taking 25 laps around the track in the men's 10,000-meter run in their outdoor season debuts.
The Raleigh Relays conclude on Saturday, beginning for Tennessee at 1:45 p.m. with the women's 800-meter and ending with the women's 4x400-meter relay at 5:10 p.m.
