February 11, 2023 | Track & Field
CLEMSON, S.C. — On the second and final day of Clemson's Tiger Paw Invitational, Tennessee graduate student Charisma Taylor broke her own school record in the triple jump with a lifetime-best leap of 14.04m (46-0.75) in the third round. The standout jump marked Taylor's first performance above 14 meters, and the Nassau, Bahamas, native shattered her previously held national record of 13.96m (45-9.75) on Saturday at the Clemson Indoor Track & Field Complex.
Taylor's record-breaking mark ranks No. 2 in the NCAA this season behind the current collegiate record holder. Additionally, the Lady Vol super senior moved to No. 16 on the all-time collegiate indoors list and became the No. 8 performer in Southeastern Conference indoor history.
The Big Orange also stood tall in the 200-meter dash on Saturday, with Jacious Sears, Javonte Harding and Emmanuel Bynum each logging season-best times for Tennessee. Sears placed fifth on the women's side with a personal-best time of 23.01, marking her third consecutive meet with a 200m PR. The time ranks No. 3 in the SEC and No. 10 in the NCAA this season and moved Sears up three spots to No. 3 on the all-time Lady Vol charts.
Tennessee's dynamic duo in the men's 200-meter also impressed, with Harding running 20.47 for the SEC lead, No. 2 time in the NCAA and No. 6 mark in the world this season. The Prince George, Virginia, native also equaled former Vol Leonard Scott at No. 4 on UT's all-time list.
Following his emphatic performance in the 400m on Friday, redshirt junior Emmanuel Bynum ran right behind Harding and tabbed a new personal-best time of 20.59, good for the No. 9 mark in the NCAA this season and ranking seventh on the conference leaderboard. He stands as the No. 7 performer in school history behind 2019 SEC champion Mustaqeem Williams' 20.55 college-best.
The meet concluded with the Tennessee men's 4x400-meter relay group of Bynum, Clément Ducos, Jakwan Hale and Rasheeme Griffith running a season-best 3:04.36 for fifth place at the meet. The time ranks second in Tennessee history and 12th nationally this season, featuring splits of 45.92 and 45.66 from Ducos and Griffith, respectively.
The Vols also had a pair of rookies log season-best performances on Saturday, with T'Mars McCallum running 21.26 in the 200-meter dash and Brandon Pottinger clearing a bar of 2.11m (6-11) in the high jump.
