Crooks, Hattie Take Home SEC Weekly Honors
November 07, 2023 | Swimming & Diving, Men's Swimming & Diving
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After stellar performances against No. 3 Florida and No. 25 Kentucky, Jordan Crooks and Bryden Hattie earned SEC weekly honors, the league office announced Tuesday.
Â
Crooks was named SEC Swimmer of the Week after winning three out of his four events during the double-dual meet, including both of his individual events. Hattie was tabbed Co-SEC Diver of the Week after finishing in the top two of both of his events, including a victory on 3-meter.
Crooks earned his sixth SEC Swimmer of the Week honor and ninth SEC weekly recognition during his career. Hattie's recognition gave him his seventh SEC Diver of the Week award. This marked the first SEC weekly honors received by a member of the Tennessee swimming & diving program this season.
Â
In the 50 free, Crooks threw down a time of 19.02, which is tied for the fastest time in the nation this year despite his effort being unsuited. That mark is also the fastest time swam in the event before November 4 since at least 2009 (based on data from USA Swimming).
Â
The defending SEC Swimmer of the Year, Crooks continued his success in the 100 free, touching the wall in 42.57. This marked the fastest unsuited time in the country this season and is fourth-best overall. In relays, he led off the second-fastest unsuited 400 free relay squad in the nation, swimming a split of 42.96.
 Â
Hattie took first on 3-meter, earning a score of 414.35. His performance bumped his average score per dive (65.39) this season to second in the SEC. The senior also earned a score of 348.50 on the 1-meter, good for a second. He was the only diver during the double dual to finish first and second in both diving events.
Â
UT is set to host nine teams next week at Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center for the Tennessee Invitational. The Invite will run from Nov. 15-17 and is free to spectators. In addition, the meet will be streamed on SEC Network+ for fans unable to attend.
