BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After impressive outings last week at the Tennessee Invite, Jordan Crooks, Bryden Hattie and Mona McSharry earned SEC weekly awards, the league office announced Tuesday.
Â
Crooks was tabbed Co-SEC Swimmer of the Week after winning a total of eight events during the Tennessee Invite, including all three of his individual events. Hattie brought home SEC Diver of the Week honors thanks to a strong performance on the boards last week with two victories and a career-best score on platform. McSharry's highlight of the week was in the 100 breast, where she improved her own SEC and UT record.Â
Â
This is Crooks' seventh SEC Swimmer of the Week honor, and his 10th SEC weekly honor in his career. Hattie took home the eighth SEC Diver of the Week award of his career. McSharry earned her third SEC Swimmer of the Week honor of her career, and this is the Olympians' fourth SEC weekly honor in her time at UT.Â
Â
This marked the second week that Tennessee athletes earned SEC awards this year, as Crooks and Hattie were honored after the double dual against Florida and Kentucky.
Â
Crooks dominated at the Tennessee Invite, tallying three individual victories and was a member of five winning relay squads. In the 50 free, his winning mark of 18.40 is the top time in the country so far this season. Crooks added a time of 41.08 early in the final night of competition to earn the victory in the 100 free. The George Town, Cayman Islands, native took his third individual event with a win in the 100 fly. Two of his individual events also reached the NCAA "A" cut.
Â
Crooks was a member of all five of the Vols' relays that rank inside the top 10 nationally, while three reached NCAA "A" cut marks. During the 800 free relay, he led off the race with a program-record 1:32.07 200 free split. In the last event of the meet, he posted a 41.03 leadoff split–the nation's No. 2 time of the year–to lead the Big Orange to a win in the 400 free relay.Â
Â
Hattie gathered two victories on the boards during the Tennessee Invite on platform and 3-meter. On platform, Hattie set a new personal best with 490.00 points, which was more than 100 over the second-place finisher thanks to four dives of 80 points or higher and ranked second in program history. His score of 411.30 on 3-meter was good enough to help place first in his second win for the week. On 1-meter, he finished second with a 359.55 effort.
Â
McSharry swam in seven events during the Tennessee Invite, including three individual events. Her 56.87 mark in the 100 breast broke her own school and SEC record. This effort is the fastest in the nation so far this year.Â
Â
The Sligo, Ireland, native earned another top SEC mark this season in the 200 breast, touching the wall in 2:06.64 for the No. 4 time in the country. She added NCAA "A" cut times in the 200 free relay, 400 free relay and 400 medley relay to complete her successful week.
