Lady Vols Conclude Successful First Day of UT Home Invitational

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee women's tennis team closed out day one of the UT Home Invitational with seven wins, including five victories in singles and two wins in doubles on Friday at Barksdale Stadium.
Esther Adeshina, Lauren Anzalotta, Sofia Cabezas, Eleonora Molinaro and Alana Wolfberg each notched wins on the day.
Adeshina defeated Margaret Navarro 6-2 and 6-1, while Molinaro secured a 6-4 and 6-0 win over Nicole Kiefer. Wolfberg rallied to beat Melodie Collard 7-5 and 6-4. Cabezas added a victory against Sara Ziodato, 6-1 and 7-6 (8-6). Anzalotta also added a win against Blanca Pico Navarro 7-5 and 6-3. Elza Tomase fell to Natasha Subhash in three sets, 6-3, 2-6, 4-6.
"Overall, our coaching staff and our squad are both happy that we were able to stay tough in pressured situations," said head coach Alison Ojeda."That's a sign of growth for our team and something we will continue to carry on as we compete."
Following singles, Tennessee collected two doubles wins to conclude the day. Adeshina and Cabezas fought through a tough match against Teah Chavez and Luciana Perry to come out on top, 6-4. Catherine Aulia and Wolfberg kept things close with Dani Schoenly and Audrey Spencer. However, the Lady Vol pair kept the momentum on their side to collect a 7-6 victory. Falling in doubles were Anzalotta and Molinaro to Akanksha Bhan and Shelly Bereznyak, 6-1.
Tennessee returns to the courts Saturday for the second day of the UT Home Invitational. Singles start at 10 a.m. ET and doubles will kick off at 1 p.m. at Barksdale Stadium.
