Crooks, Fast and Shorter Highlight Dual Meet Versus Texas A&M

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Junior Jordan Crooks and the freshman duo of Emelie Fast and Lynae Shorter all posted a pair of individual wins to highlight Tennessee's dual meet against Texas A&M on Friday afternoon at the Rec Sports Natatorium.
 
Down several key contributors after international competitions this week, UT dropped both sides of the meet. The sixth-ranked men fell to the No. 13 Aggies 175.5-124.5, while the 25th-ranked A&M women's squad defeated the No. 6 Lady Vols 169-131. Notable Vols and Lady Vols not present at the contest included Gui Caribe, Brooklyn Douthwright, Josephine Fuller, Bryden Hattie, Mona McSharry and Camille Spink.
 
Crooks earned two victories in the 50 and 100 free events as well as a second-place finish in the 200 free. Fast swept the breaststrokes by taking the 100 and 200. She also was a member of the Tennessee team that came in first in the 200 medley relay. Shorter swept the springboards to pace diving on the day. The Vols also had individual victories by Martin Espernberger and Joey Tepper, while the Lady Vols saw Jasmine Rumley tally a first-place finish as well.
 
The Lady Vols opened the day by winning the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:40.30 with a team consisting of Amber Myers, Katie Mack, Jasmine Rumley and Fast. The Vols earned a second-place finish in the event with a team of Ryan Williams, Flynn Crisci, Harrison Lierz and Micah Chambers finishing the event in 1:28.10. In the 400 free relay, both squads ended the day on a high note, recording a pair of victories. Rumley, Julia Burroughs, Laura Littlejohn and Katie Mack secured the win for the women with a time of 3:23.24. Crooks led off the Vols relay followed by Micah Chambers, Will Jackson and Jack Flanagan, who notched a time of 2:58.26 to place first.
 
Crooks swept both sprint freestyle events, continuing his dominance in the 50 free by winning the event in 19.95 - the only swimmer to swim sub-20 seconds. He then went on to place first in the 100 free with a time of 43.59 - finishing over a second faster than the next swimmer. Crooks earned second in the 200 free, touching the wall in 1:37.38. Jack Stelter secured third in 1:40.30.
Fast swept the breaststrokes, finishing in a time of 1:01.06 and taking first by more than a second and a half in the 100 breast. During the 200 breast, she secured the victory after earning a time of 2:14.38. Flynn Crisci tallied a second-place finish in the 100 breast, touching the wall in 55.88. Jed Garner went on to take third in the 200 breast, swimming a 2:00.80.
Tepper threw down the top time in the 1000 free with a 9:08.19 effort, while Jake Narvid tallied a time of 9:22.53 to take fourth. Tepper then went on to secure second in the 500 free, touching the wall in 4:26.78. Narvid was the next Vol to finish, notching a 4:34.56. Lauren Wetherell led the Lady Vols in the 500 free, placing third with a time of 4:56.64.
Rumley and Katie Mack also performed well in the 50 free, earning one-two finishes to add points for the Lady Vols. In the 100 free, Katie Mack and Julia Burroughs both earned top-three places, taking second and third, respectively, Burroughs and Julia Mrozinski led the way for the Lady Vols in the 200 free, securing second and third.
 
During the 100 back, Harrison Lierz notched a first-place finish in the 100 back with a time of 47.78, and then he went on to secure second in the 200 back, completing the event in 1:46.07. Elle Caldow earned a posted second-place finish in the 100 back after touching the wall in 54.96.
Martin Espernberger finished first in the 200 fly, earning a time of 1:45.73. He went on to take second in the 100 fly, touching the wall in 49.24.
 
In the 400 IM, Landon Driggers tallied a second-place finish with a time of 3:53.99. Gus Rothrock placed fourth, touching the wall in 3:57.24.
To round out diving, Owen Redfearn had the top score for the Vols in the 3-meter, scoring a 268.88. Nick Stone tallied a score of 341.78 to be the top scorer in the men's 1-meter.
