
Dominant Final Round Carries #5 Vols to Victory at Fighting Irish Classic

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The fifth-ranked Tennessee men's team golf claimed its second title of the season Monday at the Fighting Irish Classic.
As a team, the Vols shot a 10-under in the final round to finish at that score overall and win by seven shots over Northwestern. The team's round three score was the lowest in the field by nine strokes.
With Monday's win, the Vols now have two team titles after playing just three tournaments this season. Tennessee now has 10 program wins under head coach Brennan Webb, along with four multi-win seasons. He is now two wins shy of tying former coach Mike Malarkey (1976-98), who is third in career tournament wins as a UT head coach.
Tennessee's best finisher, Caleb Surratt, shot 7-under overall to log a runner-up finish. The Indian Trail, North Carolina, native fired all three rounds in the 60s—including a round three 66, and now has seven rounds of par or better on the season. Additionally, the sophomore has eight career top-10 finishes.
Bryce Lewis placed third in the 81-player field and shot 5-under overall. The redshirt senior shot 3-under 67s in rounds one and two. Lewis now has 10 career top-10 finishes.
Jake Hall and Evan Woosley-Reed tied for 15th place after shooting a 54-hole score of 1-over.
Woosley-Reed climbed 22 spots up the leaderboard on day two after shooting a 3-under 67 in round three. The sophomore has finished in the top 20 in all three tournaments this season.
Hall shot even-par in rounds one and two to put together his third consecutive top-20 finish. The redshirt senior has shot eight rounds of par or better this season.
Redshirt sophomore Lance Simpson posted a three-round total of 5-over to place tied for 32nd.
Competing individually, Bruce Murphy shot 14-over to place tied for 64th place.
Also competing individually, Laurent Desmarchais shot 15-over for the event and placed tied for 66th.
The Vols return to action at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate in Alpharetta, Georgia, on Oct. 13.
