Ross Announces 2023-24 Track & Field Schedule

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee track & field head coach Duane Ross has unveiled the program's competition schedule for the 2023-24 indoor and outdoor campaigns. The 2023-24 indoor slate features 19 meets from December to March, while the 2024 outdoor schedule includes 13 meets from late March to early June.

INDOOR SEASON
The Tennessee distance squad will open the campaign with a pair of early bird meets on Saturday, Dec. 2, sending a group of athletes to Boston for the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener and to Clemson, South Carolina, for the Clemson Opener before the winter break.
Action picks up with eight meets in January, beginning Jan. 12-13 with the Gamecock Opener (Columbia, S.C.) and the Commodore Challenge (Nashville). Other top meets during the first month of 2024 include the Ted Nelson Invitational (Jan. 19-20 at Texas A&M) followed by two more meets in Boston — the Riverhawk Invitational (Jan. 26-27 at the TRACK at new balance) and the John Thomas Terrier Classic (Jan. 26-27 at Boston University).
Tennessee will close out the regular indoor season in February with seven meets over three weekends of competition. Notable trips include the New Mexico Collegiate Classic (Feb. 2-3 in Albuquerque, N.M.), the Tiger Paw Invitational (Feb. 9-10 at Clemson), the David Hemery Valentine Invitational (Feb. 9-10 at Boston University) and the Alex Wilson Invitational (Feb. 17 at Notre Dame).
Indoor postseason begins with the SEC Indoor Championships, hosted by the University of Arkansas and scheduled for Friday and Saturday, Feb. 23-24 at the Randal Tyson Track Center.
National championship qualifiers will travel back to Boston for the NCAA Indoor Championships, taking place March 8-9 at the TRACK at new balance. The two-day event will mark the first time the NCAA indoor national meet has been held in the Northeast since the event's inception in 1965.
OUTDOOR SEASON
The Big Orange will take three weeks off from competition before jumping into outdoor season the weekend of March 28-30 at the Battle on the Bayou (Baton Rouge, La.), the Raleigh Relays at NC State and the Stanford Invitational.
The first weekend of April will feature UT's annual home meet as the Vols and Lady Vols will play host to the Tennessee Invitational at Tom Black Track April 5-6. Six more competitions round out the regular outdoor campaign in April, highlighted by the Bryan Clay Invitational (April 11-13 at Azusa Pacific) and the Tom Jones Memorial (April 12-13 at Florida).
The Big Orange will return to Gainesville May 9-11 to kick off outdoor postseason at the SEC Outdoor Championships. Regional qualifiers will head north of the state line May 22-25 for the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds, hosted this season by the University of Kentucky.
The 2024 collegiate outdoor season will wrap up in Eugene, Oregon, at historic Hayward Field. The NCAA Outdoor Championships will run Wednesday through Saturday, June 5-8.

Last season, he guided the Lady Vol track & field squads to a pair of top-10 finishes at both national meets for the first time since 2009, placing seventh at the NCAA Indoor Championships and tying for 10th at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. In the USTFCCCA's 2022-23 Division I Program of the Year final standings, the men of Tennessee were tabbed No. 9 when combining postseason results from cross country, indoor track and outdoor track. The ranking marked the highest position for UT on the list since the award's inception in 2008-09.
