Dean Casey Tabbed SEC Freshman of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Fresh off his Tennessee cross country debut, freshman Dean Casey has been named the SEC Men's Freshman of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
The Ennis, Ireland, native represented the Orange & White last weekend at the XC23 Pre-Nationals meet at Panorama Farms in Charlottesville, Virginia. Casey placed eighth overall in the men's 8K championship race at 23:59.9.
The highest-finishing freshman at the meet, he helped guide the Vols to a second-place team finish.
Across the entire competition weekend, Casey was the SEC's fastest freshman over an 8K course.
The recognition is Casey's first SEC weekly honor and the third for Tennessee this season. Eli Nahom and Chesney Peterson were named men's runner of the week and women's freshman of the week, respectively, earlier this season.
The Vols and Lady Vols return to competition on Friday, Oct. 27 in Columbia, South Carolina, at the 2023 SEC Cross Country Championships.
