Hall’s Runner-Up Finish Leads Vols to SEC Match Play Championship Final

VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. – Powered by a runner-up finish from Jake Hall, a top-10 finish from Lance Simpson and the best round three team score in the field, the 12th-ranked Tennessee men's golf team finished in second place following the stroke play portion of the SEC Match Play Championships and advances to Tuesday's championship match.
The Vols are set to face off against Vanderbilt, the first-place finisher in the stroke play portion of the event, on Tuesday to determine the event's champion. The match will tee off at 12:15 p.m. ET.
Tennessee carded the lowest round three score in the 14-team field, shooting 12-under on Monday. Overall, Tennessee posted an 805 team score of 35-under, which is the sixth best 54-hole score in relation to par in program history.
Registering the lowest 54-hole score of his career, Hall led the way for the Vols with a three-round total of 12-under and tied-for-second-place finish—marking his best collegiate finish. Finishing just one stroke back from the individual title, Hall shot each round under par, including a career low 18-hole score of 65 and a final round of 66, with four birdies on the back nine.
Simpson came in just four strokes behind Hall, shooting 8-under and finishing tied for 10th place in just his second collegiate tournament. Simpson shot below par during all three rounds, securing his first career top-10 finish. Simpson has shot at or below par in five of his six rounds this season.
After posting a two-round score of even par, Caleb Surratt notched a third-round score of 5-under to tie for 17th place. The true freshman contributed two counting rounds for the Vols.
Redshirt junior Bryce Lewis finished tied for 23rd place overall, shooting 3-under through three rounds. It marks is Lewis' 16th under-par finish in a tournament, and 18th career top-25 finish.
Redshirt sophomore Cade Russell shot 2-under on the day and finished tied for 41st overall.
