Vols Place Third at NCAA Championships, Best Team Finish Since 2002

EUGENE, Ore. – The Tennessee track & field team finished third overall in the team standings at the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships Friday at Hayward Field, scoring 34 points.
The Vols' placement is their best at the outdoor national meet since 2002. It is also the first top-10 finish since 2017.
Tennessee has now finished third in the nation at the indoor championships and the outdoor championships during the 2022 season. It is the best combined indoor and outdoor team result since 2002 when UT won the indoor national title and then finished second outdoors.
The men finished the national showcase with 16 All-America honors and one individual national champion as Wayne Pinnock completed the indoor and outdoor sweep in the men's long jump.
Florida won the men's national title with 54 points, followed by Texas in second at 38 points.
The men's 4x100-meter relay opened the third day for UT as Wayne Pinnock, Favour Ashe, Carey McLeod and Emmanuel Bynum finished fourth in the race at 38.83 seconds. The quartet earned First Team All-America honors with their placement.
Ashe ran again in the men's 100m dash, finishing as the NCAA runner-up in the event. The true freshman crossed the line in 10.08 seconds. Ashe has now finished on the podium at the NCAA Indoor Championships – placing third in the 60m dash – and at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in his first season on Rocky Top.
The Ughelli, Nigeria, native picked up First Team All-America accolades with his finish.
Jalen Tate closed out the competition for the men in the triple jump. The senior placed ninth overall with a top leap of 16.05m (52-8). He earned Second Team All-America accolades with the placement – the third All-America honor of his career.
