Vols’ Season Comes to a Close in NCAA Regionals

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Tennessee men's golf team's season came to an end Wednesday at the Bryan NCAA Regional, as the Vols finished just short of a top-five finish.
Tennessee finished in seventh place, shooting a three-round total of 16-over. The Vols conclude the season with an 85-40-2 overall record.
Wednesday also marked the conclusion of the final tournament in the collegiate careers of Spencer Cross, Hunter Wolcott and Tyler Johnson. The trio represented Tennessee in a combined 111 tournaments with 27 combined top-10 finishes and one individual title apiece.
In his final tournament as a Vol, Cross recorded his 26th career top-25 finish—shooting 3-over and tying for 24th place. Cross concluded the 2021-22 season with a 69.33 stroke average—the lowest single-season stroke average in program history.
Cross also finishes his Tennessee career with a 71.96 stroke average—currently the third-best career stroke average in program history.
Additionally, the Sevierville native's 22 rounds of par or better this season are the second-most in program history.
Johnson was one stroke behind Cross at 4-over finishing tied for 29th place.
The Knoxville native finished the season with a 71.13 stroke average—a mark that ranks fourth in program history. Johnson carded 18 rounds of par or better this season—tied for the eighth-best single season mark in program history.
Shooting 1-over, Bryce Lewis gave Tennessee its best round of the day on Wednesday—carding a three-round total of 5-over and finishing tied for 36th. Lewis' single-season stroke average of 70.97 marks the third-best in program history.
In the final tournament of his decorated collegiate career, Wolcott tied for 47th place, shooting 9-over. Wolcott finishes his Tennessee career with 131 rounds played—good for sixth-most in program history. The Burns native also wraps up his career with 105.5 counting rounds, which is the eighth-most counting rounds in program history.
Jake Hall finished tied for 53rd, shooting 12-over for the week in Texas.
