February 27, 2022 | Men's Golf
CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico – The 10th-ranked Tennessee men's golf team is in fifth place of a loaded field through one round at the Cabo Collegiate.
The Vols shot 5-under 279 for the day on Sunday and sit eight strokes out of the lead—but themselves leading a trio of top-10 teams in Stanford, Texas Tech and Arizona State.
In his return to Tennessee's lineup, redshirt senior Hunter Wolcott had Tennessee's best round of the day—shooting 3-under and finishing the day tied for seventh place. Wolcott's 68 on Sunday is tied for his best round of the 2021-22 season and marks his 57th career round of par or better.
Fresh off an individual runner-up performance at the Puerto Rico Classic just under two weeks ago, Bryce Lewis also shot under par for Tennessee on Sunday, finishing 2-under.
Sitting at 3-under through his first 11 holes during round one, Lewis shot consecutive double bogeys on holes 13 and 14, but responded by carding birdies on three of the next four holes. Lewis is tied for 19th place entering round two, just one stroke outside the top 10.
Tied for 36th place entering round two, Spencer Cross and Jake Hall both shot even par for the day Sunday to give Tennessee its final two counting rounds.
Cross carded his ninth round of par or better this season, while Hall had his team-leading 13th par or better round.
Tyler Johnson shot 1-over for the Vols during round one and is tied for 44th entering Monday. Johnson is just three strokes outside the top 20 in the tightly-contested field.
