Three Lady Vols Card Under-Par Rounds to Open ICON Invitational

HOUSTON – Tennessee women's golf opened its 2021-22 spring slate with two rounds in the ICON Invitational at the Golf Club of Houston on Monday.
The Lady Vols checked in at eighth place after 36 holes with an 8-over score (582) on the Par 72 course. The team will conclude the tournament with a 9 a.m. shotgun start Tuesday. After a slow start to the day, Tennessee came out firing in the second round, with three different golfers shooting under par on the final 18 holes of the day.
Senior Mikayla Bardwell shot 1-under and carded two birdies during the first round, and she finished the day strong, notching five birdies in the second round to finish the day tied for seventh at 3-under (141).
Sophomore Kayla Holden ended the first round at 3-over par (75) but rallied with four birdies to post a season-low round of 3-under (69). She finished the day even in a tie for 17th place.
After shooting 5-over in the first round, sophomore Vanessa Gilly carded four birdies to shoot 1-under (71) during round two. She entered the third round tied for 38th at 4-over.
Freshman Bailey Davis wrapped up her first day tied for 54th at 7-over, while junior Nicole Whiston was tied for 64th at 9-over through 36 holes.
