Vols, Lady Vols Post Solid Performances on Day 2 of Invite
January 04, 2022 | Swimming & Diving
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Day two of the Tennessee Diving Invitational featured solid performances by the Vols and Lady Vols on Tuesday at Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center.
Â
Matthew Wade paced the Tennessee on the men's 1-meter, placing third with a season-best mark of 336.65. He improved his score by nearly 20 points from preliminaries to finals. Bryden Hattie finished sixth after recording a 327.90 score. Earning spots in the final, Dillon Richardson (311.60) and Jacob Reasor (286.05) placed 10th and 12th, respectively.
Â
The women's 3-meter featured a tight battle between the majority of the 12-member final, with 11.6 points separating fourth and ninth places. Kara Holt led the way with a score of 274.15 followed by Elle Renner (274.05) and Emily Ann Wolfson (225.85). During prelims, Renner notched a score of 281.90, Wolfson threw down a 265.00 and Madison Reese recorded a 249.60 mark.
Â
"I wasn't able to completely watch the men because I was judging on the women's side, but from what I saw, I was pretty pleased with their performance," diving coach Dave Parrington said. "It was good to see Matt step up in the final and move up to post a season best. He's continuing to build and get better each time out. Bryden had a nice list in the prelim, but then dropped off a little bit in the final. Dillon and Jacob did some solid stuff here and there, and they showed their potential. Overall, pretty good performance for the men.
Â
"For the women, it was kind of a mixed bag. I was very happy with Elle's prelim list. She really made some strides on some dives, but then she lacked some focus on some of her easier dives, took them for granted and paid the price. Moral of that story is to give each dive its due respect. Otherwise, she did some really good stuff. Kara was consistent all day long. Emily Ann had some really good moments as well. We are getting Maddie back in the swing of things. Overall, it was a solid day. A little here and there in some areas, but for the most part, I was pretty pleased."
Â
On Wednesday, the men will be on the 3-meter while the women will compete on the platform and then end the day with the women's team event.
