Lady Vols Open Season with Two Rounds at the Cougar Classic

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Tennessee women's golf team and first-year Lady Vol head coach Diana Cantu opened the 2021-22 season Monday at the Cougar Classic in Charleston, South Carolina.
Teams played 36 holes Monday, as the third and final round is set for an 8:45 a.m. ET shotgun start Tuesday.
The Lady Vols are in 14th position, at 12-over (588), entering the event's final round.
Monday saw junior Nicole Whiston lead UT by shooting even par (144) through the opening two rounds. Whiston went 1-over (73) in the first round and carded a score of 1-under (71).
Participating as an individual in Tennessee's season-opening tournament, senior Hadley Walts matched Whiston by registering a 36-hole score of even par (144). Whiston and Walts are each tied for 24th ahead of the third round.
Vanessa Gilly began her second year on Rocky Top by carding a 36-hole score of 148 (+4), finishing the day in a tie for 51st.
Sophomore Kayla Holden rolled in six birdies on Monday, wrapping up action tied for 61st place.
Mikayla Bardwell, one of two Tennessee seniors, carded five birdies through the opening 18 holes and three more in the second round. Bardwell shot 1-over (73) in the opening round and now sits at +5 (149), tied for 61st.
Freshman Bailey Davis is tied for 76th after shooting 7-over through Monday's two rounds.
