Cantu Announces 2021-22 Women’s Golf Schedule
July 08, 2021 | Women's Golf
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Entering her first season as the Tennessee head women's golf coach, Diana Cantu announced the Lady Vols' 2021-22 schedule Thursday.
The regular season features nine tournaments, with five being held in the fall and four in the spring. The annual trip to Birmingham, Alabama, for the SEC Championship is scheduled from April 13-17 to begin postseason competition.
"I'm excited about our tournament schedule for this season," Cantu said. "The team is familiar with most of the courses that we will be playing at, but there are a few new venues as well. We are looking forward to strong competition throughout.
"I look forward to coaching this group in competition from up close and evaluating our team's strengths, as well as what we can improve on in order to meet our team goals. I believe that we have a talented group of young ladies and they are very excited to get going."
Of the five fall tournaments, three of the five are scheduled as two-day, 54-hole events.
For the third time in four seasons, the Lady Vols will open the campaign at the Cougar Classic in Charleston, South Carolina, from September 13-14.
The Lady Vols host the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship at the start of the following week, from September 20-21. The tournament's playing will mark the 23rd running of the event in the past 25 years, with the 2011 and 2020 being the pair of exceptions.
From October 4-6, Tennessee will make a return to The Blessings Collegiate in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The event will be nationally televised on the Golf Channel from 4:30-7:30 p.m. ET each day.
A debut appearance at the Jim West Challenge, hosted by Texas State, from October 17-18 and a trip to The Ally at Old Waverly for a second consecutive season, scheduled for October 25-27, wrap up fall competition.
In the spring, the Lady Vols appear at the Icon Invitational in Houston, Texas, from February 21-23.
On the first weekend in March, Tennessee returns to Gainesville, Florida, for the Gator Invitational, where Kayla Holden finished in a tie for sixth with a three-day score of +2 (212) last season. That performance resulted in her being named the SEC Freshman of the Week in just her second collegiate tournament appearance.
The Valspar Augusta Invitational in Augusta, Georgia, which runs from March 12-13, is followed by a two-week break before the Lady Vols conclude the regular season at the Clemson Invitational in Sunset, South Carolina, from March 25-27.
The 2022 SEC Championship will take place in Birmingham, Alabama, from April 12-17. Regional hosts for the 2022 NCAA Tournament are New Mexico, Michigan, Oklahoma State and Florida State. The NCAA Championships take place from May 20-25 and will be held in Scottsdale, Arizona, for a second consecutive year.
