#SwimTrials21: Small Advances to Finals of 200 IM

OMAHA, Neb. – LVFL Meghan Small won her heat of the 200m IM semifinal Tuesday night at the CHI Health Center in Omaha, Nebraska, advancing to the finals, which will be contested Wednesday night.
In her semifinal heat, Small raced into second on the breaststroke leg, before taking the lead on the freestyle leg as she headed for home. The Lineboro, Maryland, native touched the wall in 2:10.09, setting a new personal-best time in the event.
She is the third-overall qualifier for Wednesday's final.
Also swimming in the 200m IM semifinal, Alexis Yager placed seventh in the event's second heat as she got to the wall in 2:15.16. In the morning's prelims, Yager finished with a personal-best time of 2:14.38.
LVFL Molly Hannis was disqualified Monday night in the 100m breaststroke semifinal, but had the disqualification overturned and was able to compete in Tuesday's 100 breast final.
Hannis placed seventh in the final with a time of 1:07.26.
The Wave II eight-day trials competition serves as the sole qualifier for swimmers on the U.S. Olympic Team for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. The top 16 times out of the preliminary heats will form the semifinals for all events at 200m or less, with the top eight semifinalists advancing to finals. In events 400m or longer, the top eight swimmers out of the preliminary heats will head straight to the finals.
Athletes will earn a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team roster at each of the eight finals sessions.
200-Meter Freestyle
LVFL Erika Brown and in-coming Lady Vol Sara Stotler swam in the preliminaries of the 200m freestyle Tuesday morning. Brown finished 25th, touching the wall in 2:00.82, while Stotler placed 42nd in 2:02.62.
200-Meter IM
Joining Small and Yager in the 200 IM was the trio of future Lady Vols, Stotler, Josephine Fuller and Kate McCarville.
Stotler posted a time of 2:17.50, finishing 32nd in prelims, while Fuller came in 37th at 2:17.65. McCarville rounded out the group, placing 39th in 2:17.80.
1500-Meter Freestyle
In the 1500m freestyle, Kristen Stege and Amanda Nunan represented the Orange & White, finishing ninth and 16th, respectively.
Stege set a personal-best 16:20.55 in the 1500m as she placed ninth overall, narrowly missing qualification for finals. Nunan was 16th in prelims, touching in 16:41.38.
Wave II heads into its fourth day of competition Wednesday with the men's freestyle 100m, women's butterfly 200m, men's breaststroke 200m and men's freestyle 800m.
