April 23, 2021 | Track & Field
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Tennessee jumping standouts Carey McLeod and Darryl Sullivan headlined outings for the Big Orange track & field program Friday evening at the Clark Wood Open in Louisville, posting a pair of nationally prominent performances in their respective events.
Â
McLeod needed just one attempt to break Tennessee's long-standing school record in the long jump, leaping an outdoor lifetime best mark of 8.21 meters (26-11.25). The mark topped the previous program standard of 8.00 meters (26-3) that was set by Darius Pemberton in 1995. McLeod's jump also went down as a meet record and currently ranks as the No. 2 performance in the NCAA and No. 5 in the world during the 2021 outdoor campaign.
Â
Sullivan improved his NCAA DI-leading mark in the high jump by one centimeter, clearing an outdoor PB of 2.27 meters (7-5.25) for the win on Friday. His performance also set a meet record and ranks the Marion, Illinois, native as the No. 7 high jumper in the world for the 2021 outdoor season.
Â
HOOSIER TAKES FLIGHT: Lady Vol redshirt freshman Prom'Myse Hoosier earned her first collegiate victory in the long jump with a new lifetime-best performance of 6.33 meters (20-9.25) on Friday. The mark set a meet record and moved her up two spots to No. 8 on Tennessee's all-time list, passing All-Americans Maya Neal and Celriece Law.
Â
RUNNER-UP RILEY: Redshirt rookie Anthony Riley helped UT go 1-2 in the men's long jump with a new outdoor season-best. The Oklahoma City native went 7.54 meters (24-9) to earn a second-place result at the Clark Wood Open, topping the third-place finisher by 10 centimeters.
