December 16, 2021 | Swimming & Diving
AUBURN, Ala. – Grace Cable's victory on the 3-meter and a top-10 performance by Bryden Hattie highlighted day two of the Auburn Diving Invitational for Tennessee diving on Thursday.
Â
Cable followed up her second-place finish on the 1-meter Wednesday by winning her seventh event of the year with a score of 321.15 on the 3-meter. The senior was in a tight battle throughout the finals but pulled away after scoring an impressive 61.60 on a Back 2 1/2 Somersault Tuck for her fifth dive.
Â
Madison Reese's 275.05 was good for fifth in the event. Elle Renner notched a score of 263.00, while Kara Holt (250.15) and Emily Ann Wolfson (243.85) rounded it out for the Lady Vols.
Â
"Grace showed a lot of consistency all day long as evidence by score in both the prelims and finals," diving coach Dave Parrington said. "She passed her rivals with her finals two dives, and that ended up being a really good win for her. Maddie showed some good improvements from yesterday. Emily Ann continues to take really good strides and made some technical changes that we have been working on. Very strong performance by our women."
Â
The men opened the day with the 1-meter springboard. Hattie led the Vols with a mark of 347.15 to finish fifth in the finals. During prelims, the sophomore threw down a personal-best 378.70, which ranked eighth in program history. Matthew Wade (311.30) and Jacob Reasor (300.40) both improved their scores from the prelims to the finals. Dillon Richardson rounded things out with a score of 261.70.
Â
"I was really happy with our guys despite not having as good of finals as we did prelims," Parrington said. "Bryden was exceptional today. He had a career best by a long way and not to mention him moving into the top 10. That is a really strong achievement for him. Jake showed some improvements in areas we have been working on, including a couple of new dives that he performed, so that was really great to see. Still trying to get Matt back into the swing of things. Dillon showed some good stuff as well. This was a very competitive field, and there are some divers in this field who are exceptional. Our guys represented ourselves very well."
Â
Day three of the invite will begin with the men's 3-meter (noon) followed by the women's platform (4 p.m.).
