October 26, 2021 | Swimming & Diving
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the second week in a row, Tennessee sophomore Mona McSharry was recognized by the SEC, being named the SEC Female Co-Swimmer of the Week on Tuesday.
Â
Behind two individual wins and a victory in the 200 medley relay, McSharry was the top points scorer (20) in Tennessee's win against 13th-ranked Louisville. The Dublin, Ireland, native swept both breaststroke events against the Cardinals, posting season-best times of 59.77 in the 100 and 2:10.19 in the 200.
Â
McSharry, the SEC leader in the breaststroke, shaved more than one second off her time in the 200 breast from the previous meet and ranks fourth nationally in the event. The Lady Vol also holds the country's seventh-fastest time in the 100 breast, and she's a member of the 200 medley relay squad that ranks 10th overall after recording a time of 1:38.78 against Louisville.
Â
Last week, McSharry was one of five UT swimmers and divers recognized by the conference. In total, Tennessee has received seven SEC weekly honors this season.
Â
Up next, Tennessee swimming & diving will hit the road to take on SEC foe Kentucky in Lexington on Friday, November 5. The meet will begin at 2 p.m. ET. The Vols and Lady Vols will then return home for the annual Tennessee Invitational, which will feature some of the top teams in the country, on November 18-20.
