October 21, 2021 | Men's Golf
The 16th-ranked Tennessee men's golf team is set to compete in its final event of the fall this weekend, traveling south to the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate in Alpharetta, Georgia.
The Vols tee off the three-round tournament on Friday morning at 9:20 a.m. ET and are scheduled to compete in one round apiece on Saturday and Sunday.
According to Golfweek's college rankings, eight of the 14 participating teams in the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate are ranked inside the top 25. The 14-team field also has eight teams that played in the 2021 NCAA Championship, including defending national champion Pepperdine.
After a fourth-place team finish to open the fall at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational, Tennessee competed in the first-of-its-kind SEC Match Play Championship in Birmingham, Alabama. The Vols posted a 2-2 record as a team with wins over Missouri and Florida, while individually senior Spencer Cross went a perfect 4-0 in his matches over the course of the event, while redshirt sophomore Bryce Lewis went 3-1.
The Vols competed at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate back in Brennan Webb's second season as Tennessee's head coach in the fall of 2019—placing seventh as a team. The tournament marked the then-true freshman Lewis' debut as a member of Tennessee's lineup. Lewis was the Vols' highest finisher, tying for 15th place.
