UT Earns Five SEC Swimmer/Diver of the Week Awards

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Thanks to several impressive performances this past weekend, Tennessee swimming and diving won five SEC weekly honors, the league office announced Tuesday.

Jarel Dillard (Male Swimmer of the Week), Mona McSharry (Female Swimmer of the Week), Bryden Hattie (Male Diver of the Week), Grace Cable (Female Co-Diver of the Week) and Julia Mrozinski (Female Freshman of the Week) were the Vols and Lady Vols recognized by the SEC.

Jarel Dillard – SEC Male Swimmer of the Week
Dillard dominated the breaststroke events against fourth-ranked NC State, sweeping both races with NCAA B Cut times to cap one of the best meets of his career. He was the top points scorer for the Vols and was tied for the meet high with 18.

In the 100 breast, the Hendersonville, Tennessee, native notched a time of 52.84 to take first. The mark ranks third in the country this season and is the best in the SEC. Dillard followed up the impressive swim by winning the 200 breast with an SEC-best time of 1:56.71, which ranks fifth nationally.

Swimming with a pair of Olympic breaststroker teammates, this was the first time in Dillard's career that he won both events in the same meet.

Mona McSharry – SEC Female Swimmer of the Week
The Dublin, Ireland, native notched a pair of NCAA B Cut times in the 100 and 200 breast in the meet to take second in both races. McSharry's mark of 59.90 in the 100 breast is the seventh-fastest time in Division I this season, while her time of 2:11.33 in the 200 breast also ranks seventh nationally. Both times are the best marks in the SEC this year. She was also part of the 200 medley relay that took second at the meet with a time of 1:39.42, which ranks 10th in the country and second in the SEC.

This is McSharry's second conference weekly honor of her career, as she earned SEC Female Freshman of the Week recognition once last season. She was also the 2021 SEC Female Freshman Swimmer of the Year.

Bryden Hattie – SEC Male Diver of the Week
Hattie continued his strong start to the season, sweeping the springboard events against fourth-ranked NC State. The Victoria, British Columbia, native won the 1-meter with a score of 319.28. He completed the sweep with a victory on the 3-meter with a mark of 353.25. The 2021 SEC Freshman Diver of the Year and reigning SEC champ on the platform has swept the springboards in both meets this season.

Grace Cable – SEC Female Co-Diver of the Week
Cable swept the springboard events for the second-straight meet, as the Lady Vols took on No. 3 NC State. The Winter Park, Florida, native recorded the top score on the 1-meter at 299.48 and followed it up with a 301.83 3-meter mark. The senior's 18 points were tied for a meet high.

Julia Mrozinski – SEC Female Freshman of the Week
The highest ranked recruit in Tennessee's 2021 signing class by SwimCloud, Mrozinski won the 200 freestyle and notched two other podium-finishes during UT's meet against the third-ranked Wolfpack.

The Hamburg, Germany, native gave the Lady Vols a spark early on by posting a time of 1:47.81 in the 200 free, a mark that ranks 13th overall and third in the SEC this year. Among freshman, the time is the best in the SEC and second nationally. She swam leadoff for Tennessee's 400 freestyle relay, which placed second with a time of 3:19.56, the top mark in the SEC and third in the country this season. Mrozinski also added a third-place finish in the 100 freestyle on the day.

Mrozinski is the second Lady Vol to win SEC Freshman of the Week honors this season, joining Summer Smith, who received the honor last week.

Up next, Tennessee will host Louisville (Oct. 21) at Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center for its home opener. The meet starts at 2 p.m. and will be honoring UT's Olympic Tradition, with past and present Olympians being recognized and LVFLs Erika Brown and Molly Hannis signing autographs for fans during the meet.
