Seymour Enters Lady Vol 3K Top-10 At Bob Pollock Meet
January 30, 2021 | Track & Field
CLEMSON, S.C. — Tennessee redshirt sophomore Sydney Seymour placed herself among the 10 fastest Lady Vols in program history in the indoor 3,000-meter run Saturday afternoon, clocking a time of 9:24.60 at the Bob Pollock Meet. The mark was good for No. 7 on UT's all-time top 10 list and was a personal-best for Seymour by nearly 28 seconds.
"I was really proud of Sydney today," head coach Beth Alford-Sullivan said after the meet. "She's been on a mission this whole year. The fall got cut a little short without being able to run in the SEC Cross Country Championships. We opened her up early with that 5K in Nashville, put in a great cycle of training, and she was able to put together a great race today. I figured she was in about a 9:30 fitness level, and she popped off to go 9:24, so we're really proud of her."

With seven athletes competing in six events on Saturday, the Big Orange claimed three podium finishes and four personal records on the day. Read below for more highlights from Clemson's Bob Pollock Meet.

McLEOD POSTS NCAA TOP-10 TRIPLE JUMP: UT junior and reigning SEC Men's Field Athlete of the Year Carey McLeod made his triple jump season debut at Clemson, finishing as the top collegiate athlete at the meet with a 15.79-meter (51-9.75) performance. The mark ranks No. 8 in the NCAA this season as the Vols have two in the top-10 nationally (No. 2 Jalen Tate, 16.38m / 53-9).
"It was great to see Carey open up this week," Sullivan said. "Like it has been for many of our athletes, he hadn't jumped officially since last February. He's in tremendous fitness and tremendous shape, and coach [Travis Geopfert] has had him ready to go. The goal was to get some NCAA and SEC caliber marks, and he accomplished that. We'll lace them back up in a week or two for him. He looks great, and we were very pleased with being able to get him on the board and putting the pieces together to jump really far this season."
Â
BIG GEORDE GETS AN EASY DUB: Tennessee senior Georde Goodwyn earned the first victory of his career in the men's 3,000-meter run, placing first at Clemson with a time of 8:24.63. The Knoxville native cruised to the win as his mark was more than 15 seconds faster than runner-up Jack McManus of Clemson (8:39.77).
Â
SEVEN-STRAIGHT FOR MAINES: Lady Vol senior thrower Latavia Maines' dominance continued as the top collegian in the women's shot put for the seventh meet in a row. Her toss of 15.67 meters (51-5) edged South Carolina's Kathleen Young (15.55m / 51-0.25) for third place at the meet, as Maines finished behind a pair of post-collegiate throwers on Saturday.
