Mikayla Bardwell Wins Tennessee Women’s Amateur

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee sophomore Mikayla Bardwell closes out her summer of competition with a win at the 2020 Tennessee Women's Amateur. She finished at 3-under par for the tournament (71-73-69).
The Lewisville, Texas native spent the week hanging around the top of the leaderboard, closing out the opening round tied for first and ending day two in a tie for second.
Going into the tournament's final turn, Bardwell was locked in a three-way tie for the lead with Middle Tennessee's Catherine and Caroline Caudill at 1-over. Bardwell shot back-to-back birdies on 10 and 11 followed by par, par, birdie, par, par over the next five holes before closing her final round with another pair of birdies.
Her win marks the second time in the last three years that a Lady Vol has won the Tennessee Women's Amateur, joining Mariah Smith who the tournament in 2018.
"I am thrilled for Mikayla to get the win," head coach Judi Pavon said. "She made a great comeback after a tough start today. She has had a really good summer and it was wonderful to see all of the hard work she has put in over the last couple of month pay off with a win in the Tennessee Women's Amateur."
Bardwell was joined in the tournament by fellow Lady Vols Smith and Shelby Liford. Both Smith and Liford posted strong performances during the week, spending the tournament towards the top half of the leaderboard.
Smith finished the week tied for fourth at 3-over for the tournament (74-72-73). Liford was just behind her teammate, finishing tied for seventh at 4-over par (75-73-72).
"Mariah and Shelby had great weekends as well," Pavon said. "I'm proud of them both, they played three solid rounds. I have not been able to watch them since March and I am looking forward to getting back on campus and getting to work. This week was truly a great week for the Lady Vols."
