Vols, Lady Vols to receive cutting-edge performance tracking tool
Tennessee Athletics recently bolstered its robust sports science efforts through a partnership with WHOOP, the human performance company. Tennessee becomes the first school to offer WHOOP Strap 3.0 to its entire athletics program—comprising more than 600 student-athletes across 20 sports—to drive optimal performance through wearable technology and advanced analytics, while also amplifying health and safety measures.
Â
"We couldn't be more excited about our 'return to perform' protocols and using cutting-edge sport science and an all-encompassing internal tracking tool like WHOOP to gain a competitive edge in recovery and performance while creating habits that will last a lifetime for our student-athletes," Tennessee Associate Director of Olympic Sports Performance Greg Adamson said.
Â
WHOOP harnesses critical physiological data to inform student-athletes' decision-making around sleep (quality, duration and regularity), workout and non-workout strain (cardiovascular load) and recovery (capacity to adapt to stimulus).
Â
"WHOOP is the perfect partner for athletes of all levels to unlock their inner potential with a continuous understanding of their bodies," WHOOP VP of Performance Kristen Holmes said. "We've helped collegiate athletes achieve their highest academic and athletic goals through positive behavior change and will support the University of Tennessee in this new endeavor."
Â
Tennessee's storied athletics program will have access to an unprecedented amount of insight into their well-being, and WHOOP will empower them to optimize all aspects of human performance. WHOOP will offer in-depth onboarding training and ongoing support remotely to optimize the user experience.
Â
"WHOOP has been a very important asset in helping to improve our student-athletes' performance," Tennessee Director of Olympic Sports Performance Dan Wirth said. "The technology and actionable feedback give us the total picture of both physical strain and recovery to help guide our programming on a weekly basis."
Â
Tennessee Athletics WHOOP users will have an exclusive view into their own data for personal analysis and the ability to opt in to team insights with coaches, colleagues, teammates and training staff.Â
