BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Tennessee men's track & field program has earned a pair of awards from the Southeastern Conference, as the league office announced its weekly honors Tuesday afternoon. Vol rookie Emmanuel Bynum was named the SEC Men's Freshman of the Week, while senior captain Darryl Sullivan received SEC Men's Field Athlete of the Week honors.

Bynum posted a pair of standout performances in the long sprints this past weekend at the Virginia Tech Invitational.
Â
The Memphis native ran a time of 33.38 in the men's 300-meter dash Friday night that broke the all-time UT freshman record of 33.96 set by Dentarius Locke in 2011. Bynum placed himself No. 6 on Tennessee's list of all-time top-10 performers in the men's 300m.
Â
The following afternoon, Bynum ran the fastest men's 400m dash in the SEC this season, taking second at Virginia Tech with a personal-best time of 47.20. The mark ranks ninth nationally and was just 0.15 seconds away from breaking the UT freshman record.
Â
Bynum is Tennessee's first SEC Men's Freshman of the Week since Ari Cogdell, who won the award on January 19, 2016.

Darryl Sullivan // Jumps // Marion, Illinois
Sullivan posted a historic performance for the Vols' track and field program Saturday afternoon at the Virginia Tech Invitational, clearing a height of 2.33m (7-7.75) in the men's high jump.
Â
The mark tied the all-time Southeastern Conference indoor record and vaulted Sullivan to No. 4 on the NCAA track & field all-time indoor performance list. It was also good for the world lead for the 2019-20 indoor season and topped the previous Tennessee school record of 2.31m (7-7), held by three-time NCAA champion Randy Jenkins.
Â
A native of Marion, Illinois, Sullivan also equaled the 2020 Olympic qualifying standard and broke the facility record at Virginia Tech's Rector Field House with his performance on Saturday.
Â
Sullivan is the first Tennessee athlete to earn SEC Men's Field Athlete of the Week honors since All-American pole vaulter Jake Blankenship took home the award on February 9, 2016. Tuesday morning, Sullivan was also announced as the NCAA Division I National Athlete of the Week by the USTFCCCA.
Following a two-week break from competition, Tennessee track & field will head to Lubbock, Texas for the Texas Tech Invitational. The three-day meet will run Thursday, January 30 through Saturday, February 1 at the Sports Performance Center.
