Four Tennessee players sit inside of the top 25 with senior Rhys Nevin tied for third
TOLEDO, Ohio – For the second consecutive season, the Tennessee men's golf team will take a lead heading into the final round of the Inverness Intercollegiate.
After winning the tournament by seven strokes a year ago, the Vols will take a four-shot lead into the third round tomorrow in Toledo, Ohio. They were helped by having the lowest round in the tournament on Monday, carding a second round 282 (-2) to leap up to the top of the leaderboard.
Tennessee shaved 11 strokes off their opening round 293 (+9) and jumped from fourth to first by the end of the day. Much like a season ago, the Vols got production from the entire lineup as four of the five golfers sit inside of the top 25 on the individual leaderboard.
Senior Rhys Nevin, who is tied for third at even par, will look to close out his second top-5 finish in as many starts tomorrow as he is the top Tennessee player on the leaderboard. A second round score of 68 (-3) helped him move up 20 spots on the leaderboard. His second round tied the lowest round in the tournament thus far.
Junior Spencer Cross and redshirt junior Chip Thomas are just three shots back of Nevin in a tie for 11th. Both players had a round of par or better to close out the day. Cross was the biggest mover in the field in the second round jumping 31 spots into the top 15 after turning in a 69 (-2).
Thomas' even par round saw him move up 12 spots on the individual leaderboard
Rounding out the players in the top 25 is redshirt junior and Hunter Wolcott. The Burns, Tennessee native spent the entire day inside of the top 25 and enters the final round tied for 23rd at 5-over-par.
Tennessee (+7) will tee off the final round tomorrow off hole No. 1. The Vols will be paired with Notre Dame (+11) and Auburn (+14) who are second and third, respectively. The final portion of the third round can be seen on ESPN3 beginning at approximately noon (ET).

On adjustments made throughout the day:
"The wind was a very constant all day. It was a cross wind on almost every hole so it was very difficult to judge. As the day got on, our guys were able to feel comfortable make the necessary adjustments." – Coach Brennan Webb
On mental toughness during tough conditions:
"Having success in tough conditions always comes down to your mindset and how you are going to face the adversity that comes with difficult conditions. Our guys have continued to work on that and it showed today." – Coach Brennan Webb
