Lewis Leads Four Vols Individuals at Jim Rivers Intercollegiate
September 15, 2019 | Men's Golf
Redshirt freshman Bryce Lewis cards an opening round of 70(-2) and is just three strokes off the individual lead
Choudrant, La. -- University of Tennessee men's golfer Bryce Lewis led the way for the Vols in the opening round of the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate on Sunday.
The Vols have four players in Louisiana playing as individuals with three of them being tied for 26th or better.
After 18 holes of play, Lewis is in the running for the individual title as he is tied for seventh and just three strokes off the lead entering Monday.
The redshirt freshman had a bogey on the opening hole of the tournament, but it would be his only blemish on the scorecard in round one. He immediately answered with back-to-back birdies to get himself under par where he would remain for the rest of the round.
After parring the next six holes, he found his third birdie of the day on the par-5 11th to help him post a round of 70 (-2).
Two Vols sit just outside of the top 25 on the leaderboard at 1-over-par. Redshirt freshman Jet Tickle and junior Chase Roswall nearly both shot even par in the first round.
Tickle was hovering at 1-over for much of the round before a birdie on No. 17 brought him back to even. If not for a bogey on his final hole of the day, he would have been tied for 22nd.
Roswall battled back on the back nine after hitting the turn at 3-over par. The Bristol, Tenn. native shot 2-under on the back with three birdies to finish just one stroke above par.
The Vols tee off starting at 11:50 a.m. (ET) tomorrow morning with redshirt freshman Jake Hall (T44, +3).
