State-of-the-art, 8,300-square-foot facility is home to the Vol and Lady Vols
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Friday marked a groundbreaking day for the University of Tennessee men's and women's golf programs with the official dedication of the Blackburn-Furrow Golf Clubhouse.
After breaking ground on the facility in March of 2018, the golf programs moved into the state-of-the-art facility in May. The facility, which is located less than a mile from campus, is the exclusive home to both Tennessee golf programs.
"Today is a truly remarkable day, as we dedicate the Blackburn-Furrow Clubhouse," Senior Associate Athletics Director Angie Boyd Keck said. "I would like to thank all of the donors to this project—especially the lead donors, Bonnie Blackburn and Ann Furrow. I also want to recognize the donation from Mack and Jonnie Day for their lead gift for the practice facility. They were instrumental in making this dream a reality. With the completion of the clubhouse, this is one of the best practice facilities in the country.
"The location and view from the clubhouse on the Tennessee River, combined with state-of-the-art technology in the building, makes the Blackburn-Furrow Clubhouse a spectacular resource for our student-athletes and truly one of a kind."
During Friday's ceremony, Tennessee Director of Athletics Phillip Fulmer lauded the efforts of key individuals throughout the history of UT's golf programs whose efforts paved the way for the new clubhouse.

"This transformational golf facility would not be possible without the foundational work of those who came before us," Fulmer said. "Jimmy Walls, Mike Malarkey, Jim Kelson, Joan Cronan, Judi Pavon and Linda Franz were all true Volunteers. As were all of the former student-athletes who have proudly worn the orange and white."
The approximately 8,300-square-foot Blackburn-Furrow Golf Clubhouse features a 1,000-square-foot hitting bay equipped with Trackman, swing analysis technology, video capabilities and a Putt View virtual putting green.
"We are very excited to move into this state-of-the-art facility," men's golf head coach Brennan Webb said. "This will enable our student-athletes to use their time as efficiently as possible as they strive for excellence in the classroom and on the golf course. The commitment shown to the golf program by our donors, alums and administration in getting this facility built has been second-to-none and certainly sends a clear signal that our golf programs will have all the support necessary to succeed at the highest levels."
This indoor practice area gives Tennessee golfers a unique advantage, enabling them to improve their games with the best technology in the sport of golf. The indoor hitting bay allows Tennessee golfers to practice year-round, with glass doors opening up to the practice range at the Mack & Jonnie Day Golf Practice Facility.
The world-class facility is also fitted with the most cutting-edge practice green in the game. The Putt View virtual putting green gives coaches and golfers the ability to change the undulation of the green to practice a wide variety of putts with changing slopes and curves.
The green is also equipped with a projector directly overhead, which shows the golfers the contours of the green as well as a tracer with the ideal line the putt should travel on.
The clubhouse also features team locker rooms, meeting areas, a team lounge and coaches' offices. There is more than 1,200 square feet of outdoor deck and patio space for recruiting and entertaining.
"The Blackburn-Furrow Clubhouse is an incredible addition to the Mack & Jonnie Day practice facility," women's golf head coach Judi Pavon said. "The players now have a locker room for all of their golf equipment, a team room for meetings and relaxing and an indoor practice facility to keep them sharp on cold or rainy winter days. This clubhouse and facility are the best in the country and will help us attract top recruits to Tennessee."
Each player has their own designated locker, which features a cushioned, pullout bench and additional storage space for gear and equipment. Inside each locker is a private safe for additional security of individual belongings.
The Vols and Lady Vols each have their own individual team lounge areas, which look out over the Mack & Jonnie Day Golf Practice Facility and the Tennessee River. Both lounges are fitted with flatscreen TVs and couches and chairs for relaxation. They also provide immediate access to the clubhouse patios, which lead out to the practice greens and outdoor range.
The Mack & Jonnie Day Golf Practice Facility is a 28-acre, $4.5 million layout that is one of the finest in the nation. The practice course—situated on one of Knoxville's most scenic stretches of land—opened in November 2010 and was designed by the Greg Norman Golf Design Group. The practice area includes three practice holes, four Bentgrass and two Bermuda grass greens, two dedicated wedge practice areas and uses the same sand as Augusta National Golf Club.
