The 2019-20 schedule features three title defenses and the first tournament outside of the mainland U.S. since 2011
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Men's Golf Coach Brennan Webb announced the 2019-20 Vol schedule on Monday.
The schedule includes nine regular season tournaments before the start of postseason play at the annual SEC Championships in St. Simons Island, Ga.
"We are very excited for the upcoming season," Webb said. "I believe our schedule will be extremely helpful for us to achieve the postseason success that we are striving for as a program. We will have a very strong strength of schedule and also travel to all regions of the country, which is the goal when we begin the scheduling process. We are excited to defend our three tournament victories last year as well as add three very strong tournaments at The Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Invitational, Puerto Rico Collegiate and the Lamkin Grips San Diego Invitational."
In Webb's first season as the head coach at Tennessee, the Vols tied the program record with three team championships. This season the team will open up the season with two title defenses, starting at the Carpet Capital Collegiate in early September. The Carpet Capital was rated as the No. 55 amateur event in the world by Scratch Players Golf and the No. 7 college golf tournament in the country by Golfweek.
The Vols then head to Toledo, Ohio where they are the defending champions of the Inverness Intercollegiate at the prestigious Inverness Club. The course has hosted four U.S. Open Championships (1920, 1931, 1957, 1979), two PGA Championships (1986, 1993) and was the 2019 home to the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship.
Tennessee wraps up the fall slate close to home with back-to-back tournaments in state. The month of October starts with Intercollegiate at the Grove in College Grove, Tennessee followed by the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate in Johnson City, Tennessee.
The final event of the fall is at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Invitational in Alpharetta, Ga.
For the start of spring, the Vols will travel outside of the mainland United States for the first time in eight years when they play in the Puerto Rico Intercollegiate in Rio Mar, Puerto Rico in February. The last time they played an event outside of the mainland United States came in 2011 at the Cabo Intercollegiate.
Tennessee then heads to the west coast for the Lamkin Grips San Diego Classic at San Diego Country Club in the beginning of March. The club has hosted two U.S. Women's Amateur including most recently in 2017.
The month ends with the team's third title defense of the season at The Hayt in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. The tournament is held at the former site of the PGA Tour Players Championship. The Hayt is rated as the No. 12 collegiate tournament in the country by Golfweek and the No. 75 amateur tournament in the world by Scratch Players Golf.
Ahead of the SEC Championships, the Vols wrap up the regular season in the state of Tennessee at the Mason Rudolph Collegiate in Franklin, Tenn. in a tournament hosted by Vanderbilt. The event is rated as the No. 87 amateur tournament in the world by Scratch Players Golf.
This season's NCAA Championships will be hosted by Arizona State from May 22-27 at Greyhawk Country Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
