Allison Herring, Ariana Macioce and Lucia Polo to begin round one on Monday
KNOXVILLE, Tennessee – Three former Tennessee women's golfers will look to earn their LPGA Tour cards, starting this week with opening stage of qualifying school.
Allison Herring, Ariana Macioce and Lucia Polo will all tee it up in Rancho Mirage, California for the first round on Monday. After 54 holes of play, a minimum of top 60 qualifiers and ties will advance on to the second round of qualifying to take place in October at Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice, Florida.
Herring and Macioce, who still hold amateur status heading into the event, compete in their first LPGA qualifier after graduating for University of Tennessee earlier this year.
Macioce was a key part of the Lady Vols run to their 14th NCAA Championships appearance, accumulating seven top-25 finishes while also counting for 24 of the 29 rounds she competed in the lineup.
Herring recorded a career-low scoring average of 75.33 during her senior season including a career-low round of 70 in the third round of the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship. She had three top-25 finishes in her Tennessee career including a collegiate-best sixth place finish at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate.
Polo is a two-year veteran of the Symetra Tour, playing in 14 events so far this season. She finished tied for 28th at The Forsyth Classic in June while also tying for 42nd at the Symetra Classic in May. The 2015 Golfweek All-American ranks ninth in program history in stroke average with a 74.90 in her four years at Tennessee.
Polo was a key part of the 2015 Lady Vol team that tied for fifth at the NCAA Championships, advancing to match play.
