Chapman Inducted into Greater Knoxville Sports Hall of Fame

Walt Chapman, a 1985 graduate, went on to play on the PGA Tour, participating in three major championships
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Former Tennessee men's golfer Walt Chapman was inducted into the Greater Knoxville Sports Hall of Fame Thursday night.
Chapman, a former team captain and 1985 graduate, helped the Vols reach the NCAA Championships during his freshman season. As a senior, Chapman won the prestigious Hilton Head Invitational with a 54-hole score of 215.
The Greenville, Tenn. native went on to play on the PGA Tour, participating in three major championships (1986 U.S. Open, 1994 and 1996 PGA Championship). Chapman still competes on the PGA Tour Champions, most recently competing in the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship in May.
During his time on the PGA Tour Champions, Chapman has played in seven major championships, making the cut for the 2013 U.S. Senior Open Championship at Omaha Country Club.
Chapman is also the current Tennessee Senior State Open Champion, winning by three strokes over the field in June at Stonehenge Golf Course in Fairfield Glade, Tenn.
Since 2000, Chapman has taught at Fairways and Greens Golf Center in West Knoxville where he has gained national recognition by Golf Digest and Golf Range Magazine as one of the top instructors in the country.
