KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Former Tennessee golfer Garrick Porteous will be a part of the 156-player field this week at the 148th Open Championship.
The 2019 Open Championship is scheduled for July 18–21 at Royal Portrush Golf Club in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It will be the second Open Championship at the course, 68 years after the first in 1951.
Porteous, a 2012 Tennessee graduate, won one of the final four qualifying events on July 2. He carded a round of 10-under-par at St. Anne's Old Links in Lancashire, England, finishing two strokes above the cutline.
This will be the second time Porteous will play in the British Open field. He qualified for the event in 2013 after winning the British Amateur Championship which earned him exemptions to the Masters, Open Championship and US Open.
In the 2013 Open Championship, Porteous narrowly missed the cut for the weekend after carding a 153 (+11) at Muirfield Golf Links.
Porteous, a 2012 All-SEC and PING All-Region selection, will be paired with Mikumu Horikawa and Callum Shinkwin in the opening two rounds of the tournament with their first round tee time scheduled for 6:04 a.m. (ET) on Thursday.
