April 26, 2019 | Track & Field
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Tennessee sophomore Hannah Jefcoat took down the all-time school record in the women's outdoor pole vault to highlight performances for UT track & field Friday evening. The Vols split up this weekend with competitors at the 125th Penn Relays (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Tom Jones Memorial Invitational (Gainesville).
Â
Jefcoat (Dacula, Ga.) towered over 4.18m (13-8.5) on her first attempt at the bar to set the all-time program standard and place first overall at the Tom Jones Invite. The mark topped a 13-year-old program record from former Lady Vol Jessica Reust, who cleared 4.16m (13-7.75) at the 2006 SEC Outdoor Championships.
Â
DMR TAKES CARE OF BUSINESS IN PHILLY: Tennessee opened the 125th running of the historic Penn Relays with a victory in the college division men's distance medley relay, as Nick Boogades, Darryl Harris, Joe Hoots and Alex Crigger combined for a time of 9:47.79 for first place. Crigger's leg of 1600m was clocked at 4:05.42 as the Johnson City native brought the Vols from behind - edging the Pittsburgh anchor by 0.26 seconds down the final stretch.
Â
200m VOLS SHINE: Senior captain Mustaqeem Williams picked up his third win of the outdoor season, clocking a season-best 20.70 to place first out of 38 competitors in the men's 200m dash at Florida. Classmate Kwantreyl McConico followed shortly behind, placing third overall with a season-best wind-legal mark of 20.88.
Â
On the women's side, Lenysse Dyer (23.41) and Gabriella Cantrell (23.46) placed third and fourth, respectively, among collegiate athletes competing at the Tom Jones Memorial Invite.
Â
OTHER NOTABLE FINISHES: The Vols additionally logged a pair of runner-up finishes as Jack Rhea (pole vault) and Darryl Sullivan (high jump) finished second in their respective events. Rhea topped 5.00m (16-4.75) on his second attempt at the bar, while Sullivan surpassed 2.16m on his first try - good for his second-best clearance of the 2019 outdoor season.
Â
BACK AT IT TOMORROW: Tennessee returns to action at both meets on Saturday. Alexis Duncan and Domonique Turner kick off the afternoon with the Tom Jones 100m hurdles at 1 p.m., while Zach Long is set to run the Penn Relays Olympic development men's mile at approximately 3:55 p.m.
