March 08, 2019 | Track & Field
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Tennessee senior captains Maia McCoy and Mustaqeem Williams combined to collect four Second Team All-America honors Friday night at the 2019 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted at the Birmingham Crossplex.
Â
McCoy (Memphis, Tenn.) opened the meet for the Big Orange in the women's 60m dash semifinals. Clocking a time of 7.29, the senior missed qualifying for the final by two hundredths of a second and placed 9th overall. She followed that performance with a mark of 23.38 in the 200m semfinals, good for 12th place and another Second Team All-America nod. Both All-America accolades were the first of McCoy's career indoors.
Â
Williams (Woodbridge, Va.) finished 16th in both the 60m and 200m dashes Friday night to earn a pair of Second Team All-America citations. The senior completes his storied collegiate indoor career as a five-time Indoor All-American and two-time SEC Champion.
Â
Tennessee returns to action at the national meet Saturday with six field athletes competing at the Birmingham Crossplex. Darryl Sullivan will lead it off in the men's high jump, slated for a 1 p.m. CT start. Triple jumpers LaChyna Roe, Alonie Sutton and Jalen Tate are set to make their national championship debuts, while senior throwers Stamatia Scarvelis and Seth Whitener will represent UT in the weight throw ring.
