March 30, 2019 | Track & Field
STANFORD, Calif. -- Tennessee earned three event victories Friday to highlight the track & field program's performances at the Florida Relays and Stanford Invitational. Stamatia Scarvelis (hammer throw), Darryl Sullivan (high jump) and Jalen Tate (long jump) each struck gold for the Vols at Stanford University's Cobb Track and Angell Field.
Â
SCARVELIS' DOMINANCE CONTINUES: Reigning SEC Women's Field Athlete of the Week Stamatia Scarvelis picked up her second-straight victory in the hammer throw, heaving a distance of 67.21m (220-6) to defeat all other competitors in the field by four-plus feet. This marks the third event victory of the season for Scarvelis, who placed first in the discus and hammer throw last weekend at Miami.
Â
SULLIVAN LANDS TOP-3 NCAA MARK: Tennessee high jumper Darryl Sullivan picked up his first win of the outdoor season with a personal-best clearance of 2.20m (7-2.5) Friday afternoon. His mark currently ranks third among NCAA Division I athletes and second in the SEC in 2019, as well as No. 6 on Tennessee's all-time top-10 list.
Â
TATE EXPLODES WITH LONG JUMP PR: Known for his triple jump capabilities, UT sophomore Jalen Tate turned heads with his lifetime-best long jump of 7.70m (25-3.25) to win the invite section of the event on Friday. His new personal record beat his previous best by more than two feet and currently ties for the No. 4 mark in the NCAA this season.

LADY VOL TRIO LOGS OUTDOOR PRs: Tennessee jumpers Alonie Sutton (5.92m / 19-5.25), Kiara Rhodes (5.84m / 19-2) and LaChyna Roe (5.63m / 18-5.75) each posted the greatest outdoor long jump performances of their respective collegiate careers Friday afternoon. Sutton's new season-best finished second at the meet and ranks sixth in the SEC when compared to marks entering the weekend.

Nick Boogades shaved seven seconds off his 1500m PR with a mark of 3:54.63, while Alex Crigger knocked five seconds off his personal best in the 3000m steeplechase at 8:55.94 - placing second in his heat.
