Two Vols Qualify on Day 1 of NCAA Zone Diving
March 11, 2019 | Swimming & Diving
AUBURN, Ala. – Tennessee's Zhipeng (Colin) Zeng and Will Hallam punched their ticket to the NCAA Swimming and Diving National Championships with their performances Monday to start the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships at Auburn's Martin Aquatic Center.
Zeng and Hallam earned their spots in the 1-meter springboard, completing 12 dives each for combined scores of 795.10 and 677.80, respectively. With both divers qualifying, they only need to finish in the top 12 on the other boards to compete in those events at NCAAs as well.
Hallam has now qualified for his first NCAA Championships while Zeng is the defending national champion on platform.
Just six qualifying spots were available for the men's 1-meter springboard and Matthew Wade finished just outside the top six, placing seventh with a score of 672.60. Wade finished just 0.9 points behind sixth place finisher Conner Pruitt of Auburn.
On the women's side, nine qualifying spots were up for grabs in the 3-meter springboard. Ana Hernandez is the only Lady Vol competing at the zone championships and finished 19th with a score of 268.90.

Tennessee Diving Coach Dave Parrington
"I am very proud of both Colin and Will," Parrington said. "Colin was very consistent with every dive and that's what you have to do at NCAA Zones to advance and he nailed it today. Will absolutely grinded and earned his first trip to NCAAs with his performance, I couldn't be prouder of him and it was certainly a great result today."
