Ray finishes third to lead Vols at Georgia Southern Individual Collegiate

Redshirt junior Nolan Ray posts a three-round score of 211 (-5) to tie for third in the event
STATESBORO, Ga. -- University of Tennessee men's golfer Nolan Ray led the way for the Vols at the Georgia Southern Individual Collegiate.
Tennessee had three players competing in the 75-person field the past two days at Georgia Southern University Golf Course in Statesboro, Ga. as Ray was joined by Spencer Cross and Sean Wilcox.
All three Vols placed inside of the top 15 with Ray as the highest finisher, tying for third in the competition. This is the highest finish for the redshirt junior in his collegiate career and marks his first time placing inside of the top five since the 2016-17 season when he ws fourth at the Kingsmill Intercollegiate.
Ray played at the top of the leaderboard through all 54-holes. After the opening round, he was tied for fifth at 1-under-par. He followed it up with a collegiate-low round of 66 in the second round to shoot up to second on the leaderboard. His second round bested his previous low of 68 at the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational in 2016-17.
Joining him in the top 10 in Statesboro was Cross who finished the week with a 2-under-par round on Monday to jump up three spots on the leaderboard. The sophomore made his bign move in the second round of the event, firing a round of 69 (-3) to leap up 24 spots and into a tie for 12th.
The second round score of 69 was a season-low for the Sevierville, Tenn. native, helping him grab his second top-10 finish of the season.
Wilcox was the third Vol to finish inside of the top 15 at the competition, posting par or better in the second and third rounds. This is the redshirt sophomore's sixth top 25 finish in his UT career and highest so far this season.
His season-low of 71 in the second round helped the Frisco, Texas native jump 16 spots on the leaderboard and into a top 15 position heading into the final round. Wilcox's final round of 72 (E) on Monday helped him secure a spot in the top 15.

Tennessee begins team play later this month when it tees off the spring season at the Southwestern Invitational in Westlake Village, Calif. The event, hosted by Pepperdine University, will run from Feb. 25-26.
