McCoy's Facility Record Highlights Eight PRs at Carolina Challenge
February 01, 2019 | Track & Field
COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Tennessee senior captain Maia McCoy threw down a Carolina Indoor Track & Field Facility record in the 60m dash semifinals to highlight eight PRs from the Vols on Friday evening. McCoy's lifetime-best mark of 7.31 was the fastest of the day on the women's side, and she will be the top seed in Saturday's 60m final.
Â
The Memphis, Tenn. native sprinted her way into the Tennessee record books, as McCoy's 7.31 clocking ranks 10th on UT's all-time top-10 list in the women's 60m dash. This season, McCoy currently sits 7th in the SEC and 19th among NCAA Division I athletes as of Friday night.
Â
SOMETHIN' BOUT THE 60: In addition to McCoy, three other Lady Vols set new college personal-bests in the 60m dash. Lenysse Dyer (7.69), Domonique Turner (7.75) and Akira Rhodes (8.00) each logged the fastest marks of their respective Tennessee careers during the qualifying round.
Â
ROE AIRLINES: Tennessee triple jump record holder LaChyna Roe partook in the open section of the women's long jump Friday afternoon. The senior captain from Richmond, Va. reached a new indoor personal-best, clearing a distance of 5.68m (18-7.75) to place second in the event.
Â
TWICE IS NICE: Rookie hurdler Akira Rhodes broke her college-best mark in the 60m hurdles two times Friday at South Carolina. In the qualifying round, the true freshman won her heat with a PR of 8.77 to automatically qualify for the semifinals. She shaved .06 seconds more off her time in that round, crossing the finish line in 8.71.
Â
MILE PB FOR BOOGADES: Sophomore mid-distance specialist Nick Boogades turned in a time of 4:20.21 in the men's mile, hacking more than half of a second off his NCAA Indoor personal record.
Â
The Big Orange continues action at the Carolina Challenge Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m. with the men's 200m dash. The meet will wrap up at approximately 4:45 p.m. following the women's invite 4x400m relay.
